On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Franklin County Gantz Road community gardens will open at 9 a.m. for the 2011 growing season.

Franklin County, the City of Columbus, and Brown and Prairie Township officials unveiled the Darby Accord Town Center Master Plan last evening to a crowd gathered at the Prairie Township Firehouse.

Today, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners held an administrative session to discuss the possible outcomes and follow-up from the recent Columbus Region Business Development Mission to India, led by Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady and Columbus 2020.

Due to excessive rain, flooding, high winds, and tornadoes that occurred from February 2-March 23, 2011, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Thomas Vilsack designated much of Central Ohio, including Franklin County as a natural disaster area.

As warmer weather quickly approaches, Franklin County Commissioners are encouraging residents to be prepared for the severe weather, including thunderstorms, lightning, flooding and tornados, that accompany Spring.

This morning, Franklin County Commissioners and the Sheriff entered into an agreement to accept a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $70,000 to expand efforts already in place to stop internet crimes against children (ICAC).

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. On Tuesday, Franklin County Commissioners recognized the advocacy efforts of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Columbus Section, designed to protect youth from abuse.

Last week, Moody’s Investors Service assigned its highest-grade rating (MIG 1) to Franklin County’s $12 million Taxable Special Obligation Bond Anticipation Notes, Series 2011, for the Huntington Park project. The top rating saves general revenue dollars and allows Franklin County the option to pay off the debt in less than 10 years. The original project bonds were issued in 2007.
