Commissioners Approve Forward-Focused 2019 Budget

This morning, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s 2019 budget, which County Administrator Kenneth N. Wilson says will keep the county on a stable path, protect its finances, and reflects the commissioners’ commitment to the residents of Franklin County.

Dog Shelter to Host Community Open House on December 20

The Franklin County Dog Shelter announced today that it will be hosting a Community Open House on December 20th from 2 to 6 p.m. The open house will give the families of Franklin County and throughout central Ohio an opportunity to tour the shelter, meet Dog Shelter staff, learn about current and new programming coming to the shelter, and how to get involved.

Commissioners Begin 2019 Budget Hearings

This afternoon, Franklin County Administrator, Kenneth N. Wilson, presented his proposed 2019 budget to the Franklin County Commissioners, kicking off the first of four planned budget hearings.  The commissioners are the administrative arm of county government, and set the budget for all other offices, even those headed by independently elected officials.

Dog Shelter Announces New Holiday Sleepover and Family Volunteering Programs

The Franklin County Dog Shelter announced this morning two new programs to benefit the dogs in their care and the Central Ohio families who love them.  The first is a new initiative called Holiday Sleepover in which interested residents can take a dog home to their family for three days over Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s.

Franklin County Selected to Receive Grants to Design, Test Innovative Criminal Justice Reforms

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced yesterday that Franklin County is one of 12 additional jurisdictions joining the Safety and Justice Challenge, a national $148 million initiative to reduce over-incarceration by changing the way America thinks about and uses jails. Franklin County and the other jurisdictions will design and test innovative local justice reforms designed to safely drive down jail usage and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in their local justice systems.

Commissioners' Program Connects Low-Income Residents to Careers in Skilled Trades

The work force in Central Ohio will grow today with 17 new building trade apprentices, thanks to a continuing partnership between Franklin County and the Central Ohio building trades that prepares low-income workers for careers in the skilled trades where workers are in demand.

Commissioners, Coroner Break Ground on New Forensic Science Center

This morning, the Franklin County Commissioners and Coroner, Dr. Anahi Ortiz, broke ground on a new Forensic Science Center at 2090 Frank Road in the southwestern part of the county.  The new facility will replace the current morgue on King Avenue, which has been used since 1975, and represents a significant upgrade in both the size and capabilities of the coroner’s office.
