This afternoon at the Franklin County government complex, County Administrator Kenneth N. Wilson presented his proposed 2020 budget to the Franklin County Commissioners, kicking off the first of three planned budget hearings.

New Exhibit Honoring Fallen Veterans Dedicated

Franklin County veterans who have served and died during our nation’s wars now have a special exhibit dedicated in their honor which lists the veterans by name, thanks to an exhibit commissioned by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.

Franklin County Continues To Lead At The National Association Of Counties

All three Franklin County Commissioners have been named to leadership roles with the National Association of Counties (NACo), which represents Americas more than 3,000 counties, nearly 40,000 elected county officials, and 3.6 million county employees.

County Stand-out Inducted into OSU College of Social Work Hall of Fame

Franklin County Commissioner’s Justice Policy and Programs employee Dr. Patrice Palmer will be inducted into The Ohio State, College of Social Work Alumni Hall of Fame at a ceremony starting at 11:30 a.m. Friday at The Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43210.

Commissioners Announce Historic New Affordable Housing Initiative

On Tuesday, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a plan to invest approximately $65 million over the next ten years in affordable housing in Central Ohio to create more than 2,000 new affordable housing units.

Commissioners' Statement On Independence Day

Independence Day celebrates the American ideal that all people are created equal, endowed with the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that just governments derive their powers by the consent of the governed.  The commissioners salute all of the men and women serving around the world to preserve those ideals, and wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day.

Commissioners Raise Minimum Wage For Employees To $15/Hour

This morning, the Franklin County Commissioners voted unanimously to increase the lowest wage paid to their employees to at least $15 per hour.  The move is one of the first steps taken under the commissioners’ new Rise Together poverty initiative, which was announced on June 11.

Commissioners' Statement On Pride

The Franklin County Commissioners couldn’t be prouder to support the annual Columbus Pride Festival and parade.  For nearly 40 years, the Stonewall Columbus Pride festival has helped to establish Central Ohio as a smart, open, diverse, and inclusive community.  This year, the commissioners are excited to be leading a Franklin County contingent in the parade.

Commissioners Announce Collaboration to Address Poverty

This morning, the Franklin County Commissioners announced a new collaboration with the Columbus Partnership to begin to address poverty in Central Ohio in a systematic way.  The initiative began last fall with the gathering of a steering committee of local non-profit, government, business, community, and religious leaders and dozens of meetings with hundreds of local residents who are living in poverty.  The result is the Franklin County Rise Together Blueprint, which includes 120 goals and action steps to begin to address poverty more effectively.
