The building trades workforce in Franklin County will continue to grow in size and diversity thanks to a pledged commitment from the Franklin County Commissioners today to expand a unique pre-apprenticeship program for another year.

The Franklin County Commissioners this morning announced that the county will be participating in a two-year pilot program to develop entrepreneurs and small businesses in underserved communities in Central Ohio. 

Today, Franklin County was recognized as one of the 2018 Healthy Business Council of Ohio’s Healthiest Worksites at the Health Action Council’s 2018 Columbus Symposium.

After more than two years of work and cooperation between the county and its jurisdictions, Franklin County residents can now send text messages to 911 dispatchers - with one very key caveat. “If a person has the choice between calling or texting 911 centers throughout Franklin County, please call if you can and text if you can’t,” said Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown, who chairs the county-wide 911 Planning Committee. “Calling is better than texting because emergency dispatchers can get more immediate answers to questions from callers, listen for distress in voices, and learn background information that could assist first responders in a potentially life-threatening emergency.”

The Franklin County Veterans Service Commission (VSC) is reaching out to veterans in Franklin County who may be impacted by the current government shutdown.

Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown was selected this morning by a unanimous vote of the three-member Board of Commissioners to serve as president for 2019.

This morning, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s 2019 budget, which County Administrator Kenneth N. Wilson says will keep the county on a stable path, protect its finances, and reflects the commissioners’ commitment to the residents of Franklin County.

With only about a year left for childcare centers to begin the process of meeting the state’s new star rating standards, Franklin County has made great strides in helping providers prepare for the regulations.

The Franklin County Dog Shelter announced today that it will be hosting a Community Open House on December 20^th from 2 to 6 p.m. The open house will give the families of Franklin County and throughout central Ohio an opportunity to tour the shelter, meet Dog Shelter staff, learn about current and new programming coming to the shelter, and how to get involved.
