This morning, during their Board meeting, the Franklin County Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution approving the hire of Columbus engineering and design firm DLZ Inc. for the Leonard Park water project in Mifflin Township.

Columbus – Keeping with the policy enacted by Franklin County Commissioners in 2006 to protect environmental sustainability while advancing economic growth, Franklin County will implement major energy efficiency and conservation upgrades at four county buildings in Columbus using $10 million in financing from the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA). The energy project was approved at the March OAQDA meeting.

Recognizing the many benefits of community gardens, the city of Columbus and Franklin County announced recipients of their joint community garden grants program. $53,200 in funding was allocated to 42 local community gardens this year.

Each April, the National Association of Counties (NACo) raises public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation’s more than 3,000 county governments and 18,000 elected county officials during National County Government Month (NCGM).

Thanks to a partnership among the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the City of Columbus and the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC), nearly 1,700 Franklin County youth will have the opportunity to get real-world job experience to develop the skills, attitudes and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s work force.

The Franklin County Commissioners were awarded the ESGR Pro Patria Award on Saturday. The ESGR (Employer Support of Guard and Reserve) is a Defense Department office with committees in each state that works to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service Members and their civilian employers.

During the month of April, the Franklin County Commissioners are joining efforts underway by Franklin County Children Services (FCCS) to raise awareness about the prevalence of child abuse and neglect in our community and to empower the community to take action.

Franklin County is now the fastest growing county in Ohio. Tomorrow, citing concerns over the potential for additional pressure on the County’s already-constrained budget, Franklin County Commissioners are expected to approve a resolution supporting the efforts of the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) to oppose proposed Federal changes to the tax-exempt status of Municipal Bonds.

This morning during their General Session meeting, the Franklin County Commissioners recognized representatives of the Ohio National Guard for their work to raise awareness to support military members and their families.
