Yesterday, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners selected Erica C. Crawley to serve as president of the board for 2022. Commissioner Crawley was appointed to the board in July following the retirement of long-time commissioner, Marilyn Brown. She is the first African-American woman to serve on the board and the first to serve as board president. Commissioner Crawley is a U.S. Navy veteran and previously represented the 26
th Ohio House District in the southeastern portion of Franklin County.
Each year, the commissioners select one of their own to serve as president of the board, overseeing the body’s weekly General Session and Briefing meetings. The board president also serves as a spokesperson for the Board of Commissioners at community events, meetings, and during media interviews.
“I am thrilled to be selected by my colleagues to serve as the President of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners. As the first Black woman to have this role, I recognize the significance of this moment to uplift our residents," said Board President Erica Crawley. “My priorities for the county remain the same, to ensure our neighbors are as safe and healthy as possible as we continue to navigate and recover from the pandemic. The board will work to ensure access to COVID-19 testing and vaccines, as well as toward quality and affordable childcare, safe housing, access to good paying jobs and support for small businesses. We are committed to ensuring that the residents of Franklin County thrive, not just survive.”
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners meets in General Session each Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., and for weekly Briefing meetings at 9:00 a.m. on Thursdays. All meetings are open to the public but due to the ongoing pandemic, the commissioners encourage interested parties to attend virtually online. Meeting and login information can be found
