The Franklin County Board of Commissioners is again celebrating Earth Day by partnering with Goodwill Columbus and the Columbus Clippers to help keep e-waste out of our landfill by collecting used electronics.
The public is invited to donate unwanted computers, monitors, cell phones, electronics, and small appliances on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – Noon at Huntington Park, located at 330 Huntington Park Lane.
“In this day and age, our electronics and gadgets become outdated so quickly,” said Franklin County Commission President John O’Grady. “We all have a box or drawer full of useless items somewhere in our home. We encourage all Central Ohio residents to take this opportunity to do some spring cleaning and properly recycle their e-waste. Every item collected will help Goodwill Columbus provide career services to those with developmental disabilities and other barriers.”
This is the fourth year for e-waste collections held by the county and Goodwill at Huntington Park. Last year’s spring collection diverted 18 tons of e-waste from the landfill.
“We are excited to again join the Franklin County Commissioners for year-four of our important recycling partnership,” said Goodwill Columbus President and CEO Margie Pizzuti. “Profits from recycling donated goods create a revenue stream to sustain Goodwill job training programs that help individuals with disabilities and other barriers find meaningful employment. It also keeps thousands of pounds of waste from our landfills, so it’s a win-win all the way around.”
"Huntington Park is very proud to be a part of this endeavor, which encourages recycling and helps to protect the environment, while offering the community the opportunity to help Goodwill Columbus,” said Ken Schnacke, President and General Manager of the Columbus Clippers.
