This morning, Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady was selected by his peers – Commissioners Marilyn Brown and Paula Brooks - to lead the Commission as Board President during 2013.
Each year Commissioners select a board member to serve as president and oversee the Board’s weekly General Session and Briefing meetings. The Commission President also serves as the Board’s spokesperson at community events, meetings and during media interviews.
Commissioner O’Grady, who was sworn in to his second 4-year term as County Commissioner on January 3, 2013, previously served as Board President in 2010.
“I look forward to serving the residents of Franklin County as President of the Board of Commissioners this year,” said Commissioner O’Grady. “As we continue to rebound from a tough economy, my colleagues and I will continue to invest in job creation and economic development opportunities which benefit our entire community and – given the significant state budget cuts we’ll fully realize this year – we’ll be keeping a watchful eye on the state budget.” He continued, “Franklin County remains a leader in fiscal sustainability, maintaining our double ‘Triple-A’ bond rating for many years. However, this year we will not be able to do more with less as the state has suggested. We will be faced with difficult decisions this year but I look forward to working together – with my colleagues and as a community – to address these tough but important community needs.”
